Upcoming in 2017

February 17-19 (Friday-Sunday): The Moving Violations (Ron Grosslein, Van Kaynor, and Eric Eid-Reiner) will be playing at The Dance Flurry Festival in Saratoga Springs, NY.  This is an amazing weekend of dancing in just about every style you could imagine (including tons of contra dancing), as well as plenty of jamming.  More details TBA.  (There's no regular MVs dance in Greenfield tonight due to The Flurry.)

February 25 (Saturday, 7:30-10:30 p.m.): Eric plays for the Fiddlers Green Contra Dance at the Munson Library with Ron Grosslein (fiddle) and David Kaynor (calling, fiddle).  No partner or experience needed.  If you’re coming for the first time, please arrive by 7:30. Musicians of all levels are welcome to take a seat onstage and join in.  Please see the dance's page for sit-in musicians. During the break, there will be potluck snaks and socializing; feel free to bring something to share if you'd like.  In addition to contras, the series' callers liven up the evening with an occasional square, circle, mixer, or couple dance (waltz, polka, schottische).  Admission is $10 for adults and $5-10 for students and reduced income.  Munson Memorial Library, 1046 South East Street, Amherst, MA.

February 27 (Monday, 7:30-10:30 p.m.): Eric plays with Eric Boodman (fiddle, foot percussion) and Jack O'Connor (mandolin, banjo, percussion) for the Monday Night Contra Dance at the Concord Scout House.  TBA will be calling.  The Scout House is at 72 Walden Street, Concord, MA.  Entry to the dance is $5, $10, or $15 -- you pick.

March 5 (Sunday, 3:00-6:00 p.m.): Eric plays for the Mostly Waltz Hartford Dance with fiddler Audrey Knuth.  There will be a free beginner's lesson led by Charlie Mandelberg from 2:00-3:00 p.m., followed by dancing from 3:00-6:00 p.m.  The music will be mostly waltzes, as well as swing tunes, tangos, polkas, hambos, and more! March 12 (Sunday, 3:00-5:30 p.m.): Eric plays for the Mostly Waltz for Boston series with Audrey Knuth (fiddle).  The Folk Arts Center of New England's monthly Sunday dances in this series feature a lesson in waltz basics, figures, or styles from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., followed by live music for dancing until 5:30 p.m.  Intermediate-level "cool moves" or other dance variations will be taught during the break, from 4:10 to 4:30 p.m.  A variety of waltz tunes and tempos are played during the session; every third number is a different couple dance, such as a polka, hambo, schottische, swing, tango, blues, or zwiefacher.  To protect the hall's wooden floor and to make turning easier, please change from street shoes to clean shoes, ideally leather-soled, before dancing.  Concord Scout House, 74 Walden Street, Concord, MA.  Admission is $12; $10 for FAC members; and $6 for young adults.  Your second time attending this Mostly Waltz dance is free!

April 1 (Saturday, 8:00-11:00 p.m.): Dave Langford (fiddle) and Eric play the Montpelier Contra Dance, with TBA calling. Capital City Grange, Northfield Road (Highway 12), Montpelier, VT (1/2 mile south of Montpelier).  Admission $9, and $5 for dancers 15 and under.  Newcomers are always welcome, and there will be instruction of some contra dance basics at 7:30 p.m. before the dance.

September 3 (Sunday at 8:00 p.m. all night into Monday/Labor Day at 7:00 a.m.): The Moving Violations (Ron Grosslein, Van Kaynor, and Eric Eid-Reiner) play for the Brattleboro Dawn Dance.  The Moving Violations (with Mary Wesley calling) will play from 8;00 p.m. to midnight Sunday with Mary Wesley calling, followed by Tempest (with Nils Fredland calling) from midnight to 3:30 a.m., followed by Drivetrain (with Alex Deis-Lauby calling) from 3:30 to 7:00 a.m.  The Brattleboro Dawn Dances take place at the Gibson-Aiken Center at 207 Main Street (Rt. 5) in Brattleboro, VT.  Tickets will be approximately $25 for the event.

September 9 (Saturday, 7:30-10:00 p.m.): Eric plays the Wethersfield/Hartford, CT Contra Dance with Autumn Rose Lester (fiddle) and David Cantieni (flute, whistle, saxophone).  TBA will be calling.  Optional beginner's workshop at 7:15 p.m.  American Legion Post, 275 Main Street, Wethersfield, CT.  Admission $12, $10 for Hartford Community Dance members, $5 for teens and college students, and free for children 12 and under.

September 22-24 (Friday evening-Sunday afternoon): The Moving Violations (Ron Grosslein, Van Kaynor, and Eric Eid-Reiner) and Nova play for contra dancing at Adirondack Dance Weekend.  There will also be two English Country Dance bands and a number of callers TBA on staff for the weekend.  Silver Bay YMCA Conference Center, Silver Bay, NY -- between and 90 minutes from both Albany, NY and Burlington, VT.  Two dance areas (with wood floors) will usually be operating simultaneously: one will be used primarily for contras; the second primarily for english country dance. Both areas will feature Dance Parties on Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. Otherwise, these areas will be used for workshops with swing and hambo or special themed dances.  Other areas will be available for participatory singing, informal jam sessions, and other activities. Or you can stroll the grounds, kayak, canoe, shoot archery, get a massage, relax, and hang out in this beautiful setting!  Rates on the web site depend on occupancy and are all inclusive of lodging, food, dancing, and most other activities (other than massage therapy).

October 7 (Saturday, 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.): Eric plays with David Reiner (his Dad - on fiddle, mandolin), Paul Harty (guitar, mandolin, vocals, harmonica), and Andy Reiner (his brother - on fiddle, mandolin, vocals) at the Buell's Orchard Fall Festival.  Come on out and pick apples, eat apple cider and apple cider donuts, go on a hayride, eat lunch, see the candy apple factory, shop at the store... and of course, listen to music!  Always a fun day!  Buell's Orchard, 108 Crystal Pond Road, Eastford, CT.  Free admission!  Contact 860-974-1150 with any questions.

October 21 (Saturday, approximately 10:30 a.m.-3:15 p.m.): Along with David Reiner (fiddle, mandolin), and Paul Harty (guitar, mandolin, harmonica, and vocals), Eric will be playing the music stage at the Farm Day Festival at the Daniel Webster Sanctuary of the Mass Audubon Society in Marshfield, MA.  A great day for family fun, with kids games, arts and crafts vendors, food, and more!  Entry (assuming prior year's rates) is $5 for Mass Audubon members, $7 for non-members, and kids 3 and under are free.  Please note that the event will be postponed in case of rain.

October 21 (Saturday night): The Moving Violations' 3rd Saturday Greenfield Contra Dance is canceled tonight; head to Peterborough, NH for the Fall Ball for great music and dancing from noon to midnight!  And catch The Moving Violations back in Greenfield in a week!

October 26 (Friday night): The Moving Violations with Autumn Rose Lester filling in for Ron Grosslein are playing a special dance as part of a community dialogue weekend in Montague, MA.  Details TBA.

October 27 (Saturday, 8:00-11:00 p.m.): The Moving Violations (Ron Grosslein, Van Kaynor, and Eric Eid-Reiner) play for the 4th Friday Challenging Contra in Greenfield. Greenfield Contra Dance, with TBA calling.  This advanced dance is open to all but is geared for experienced dancers; there will be no beginner lesson and some dances will not be taught (no walkthrough). The Guiding Star Grange, 401 Chapman Street, Greenfield, MA.  Entry to the dance is $10-12.

November 3-5 (Friday-Sunday): Eric plays for various workshops/sessions at the 13th Annual Fiddle Hell as well as helping with logistics for the event.  Over the course of the weekend, Eric will accompany several New England and other jams, play for the contra dance, accompany a few folks in the concert, and more.  The weekend features dozens of fiddlers from around the country, teaching and leading jams in many, many styles!  It's a blast for sure!  There are typically 300+ fiddler (as well as viola, mandolin, and cello) participants!!  On Saturday night, there will be a concert (7:00-9:15 p.m.) and contra dance (9:30-11:00 p.m.) open to the public.  This will be our fourth year at The Westford Regency, 219 Littleton Road, Westford, MA.  Sessions, workshops, the concert and dance, late night jams, and (optional and separate cost) lodging are all be under one roof!  Check out the Reiner Family Band web site for more info, cost for the weekend, and the full schedule for Fiddle Hell.
